Supporting Service Members and Strengthening the Workforce: Meet ESGR
Employer support plays a critical role in maintaining a strong workforce and a ready military force. The Department of War’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) has served as a vital bridge between civilian employers and members of the National Guard and Reserve since 1972. ESGR volunteers across the nation, including Florida, assist employers and Service Members by providing no-cost training, mediation assistance, and recognition programs that support military-connected employees in the workplace.
In Florida, the strategic initiative between ESGR and the HR community continues to grow. Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Rita M. Broadway, Florida ESGR State Chair, and Jessica (Jess) Holloman, SHRM-CP, PHR, Florida ESGR Liaison to SHRM Florida, recently had the opportunity to address the SHRM Florida State Council during its 2026 Quarterly Meeting in Tallahassee.
Over the last several years, the leadership of SHRM Florida and Florida ESGR have worked collaboratively to develop a mutually beneficial strategy focused on improving workforce readiness for Reserve and National Guard Service Members while expanding employer education, outreach, and support initiatives throughout the state. This collaboration extends across the SHRM Florida State Council and its 27 local SHRM chapters.
As Guard and Reserve Service Members continue to serve in critical roles supporting national defense, disaster response, healthcare, cybersecurity, and community operations, supportive employers remain essential to mission readiness and employee success. ESGR helps employers navigate military leave and reemployment matters while fostering workplace cultures that value leadership, adaptability, and service.
